What is your design philosophy? A common question asked about an architect or artist is his philosophy in his practice. This philosophy is not locked into a particular form (formalist) or style, it is a belief that design is not only a job but a service. This is what I believe...
I believe in making the most out of assets as we define them along with our clients. Assets could be an artifact, a great view, hard-earned funds, or cherished memories. For me, it is a great location that allows good natural breeze and lighting, reliable security, and convenient access. This harmony between our team and the client is the meeting of minds I see necessary for any project to work.
Form follows function, but moreover, function follows meaning. I believe good design responds to people and the environment. A project should not only function smoothly, look good, or be properly styled, but should have meaning to us - because people live through meanings.
I believe in empowering clients to make well-informed decisions. I consider success every time our designs open minds and change perspectives, including my own. I aim for every design outcome to exceed our clients’ expectations while meeting their use, purpose, and finances. Through engagement with our design team, contractors, suppliers, and especially our clients, I learn new things about design and people.
I believe homes should reflect real people, not things, their archives, personality, memories, and lifestyle; in a way that invites engagement with things and people creating new meanings.
I enjoy creating complete environments.
I believe design belongs to people and not just one visionary. A project could be conceived, designed, detailed, built, and finished in such a way yet anyone could change the design based on use. It is by acknowledging clients, users, and the environment that great and sustainable design is achieved.
